Jim Tecu keeps hitting home runs with his St. Louis Filmmakers meetup. Our Meetup today is at the Kirkwood Public Library conference room in the lower level. I want to hit the mark with taking notes to remember the wealth of information and the names of everybody that just keep flowing into these meetings. With the excitement of being a participant it is impossible to interrupt the flow of ideas. It is also a bit difficult to remember that I will want to take notes on valuable information to include in this blog. So, please don’t be shy about chiming in at the comments section in the bottom of this page. Let people know who you are and what you are doing.

Each person who comes to the St. Louis Filmmakers meetup meeting brings their own talent. And most, if not all, are participants rather than merely filling a chair.
St. Louis Filmmakers Meetup, Today’s Venue
Today’s venue was ‘table reads.’ Four different persons presented their scripts for a three to five minute character read including narration. These scripts were either the entirety of dialogue for a short film or excerpts from such as a feature length film script. At the end of each presentation the audience was asked to critique the script.
One of the script reads was one which Kristie Lyon wrote for a 1 minute short. Most of the lines turned out to be mine. Kristie’s part is made good with emotion and expression. The dialogue takes place once I pull up to Kristie while riding my Harley. This meeting drove home the point that I had better get on the job of learning my part. Being busy while time catches up with me is no excuse for doing a lousy job of acting.
The scripts were all impressive to me. And there was plenty of feedback to be garnered while notes were taken. There was also plenty of interaction regarding where actors might come from to play the parts, how and where scenes could be shot, attitude and background development of the characters, script writing techniques, how special effects might be created and more!
The Missouri Anthem makes an appearance at St. Louis Filmmakers Meetup
If that wasn’t enough, a young man, DJ Rockette, presented his work straight from his iPhone at the St. Louis Filmmakers meetup. This gentleman was the ‘sleeper’ in the crowd.

My vision is a bit blurry on small things from a distance. So I started out thinking, “Oh. There’s an idea. Not a good one, but an idea.” Though I could barely make out what the scenes were from my position in the room, well, I had a change of attitude.
Mr. Rockette’s presentation took most of a year to create. D. J. had the idea that with so much negative PR in the mainstream media being aimed right at Missouri communities… it is high time somebody did something to put some positive information out there. He wants everybody to know something about what a nice and interesting place Missouri truly is! And Mr. Rockette is just the man to do the job. So much so that not only is Tourism Department of the State of Missouri interested in his work but there are sounds in the wind of possible similar projects. Including one on a national scale.
Daaaaang! It wouldn’t surprise me if he hit a global niche with an ongoing series of these videos.
